How to create a Windows XP PRO, Home, or Media Center dial-up server. This procedure will configure a Windows XP Pro, Home or Media Center PC into a Dial-Up server that will answer the modem and allow another computer to connect to the network that is attached to the server. You will need to have a modem installed and correctly connected to you phone company and know what the phone number is. Click on Start
and highlight All Programs. Scroll up to Accessories
and scroll over to Communications and click on the New
Connection Wizard. Click next. Click on the Set up an advanced connection radio
button. Click next. Click on Accept incoming connections radio button. Click the check mark box next to the modem installed
in the computer. Click Next. Click on the Do not allow virtual private connections
radio button. Click Next. From the list of user’s on the computer put a check mark
next to user that is going to be allowed to dial into the computer and have
access to the network. Click Next. Unless you need to set up Callback
services, then you would select properties. The list you see here will differ depending on the
protocols used on the server & network, however most of the time you can just
click Next. You should at least see “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”,
“Client for Microsoft Networks” & maybe “QoS Packet Scheduler” Click Finish. You should now be able to dial up from another computer to this computer and use the user name and password that was specified in the setup. Now when you open your Network Connections folder
you will see an icon for Incoming Connections. Created by Patrick Hall @ Computers 2U 2/2/2006 www.computers2u.com |
